The Patriot Predator is Mossberg’s purpose-built hunting bolt gun, aimed at shooters who want a field-ready rifle without spending time and money finishing it themselves. It ships with the features that most hunters eventually add anyway — a threaded muzzle, a fluted barrel, and a Picatinny rail — so the rifle is ready to run a suppressor or muzzle brake and carry a scope straight out of the box.

The barrel is spiral-fluted, which removes material along the length without shortening it. That matters on a 22-inch tube because you keep the velocity that comes with the extra length while recovering some of the weight penalty. The 1-in-10-inch twist rate suits the .308 Winchester’s typical hunting bullet range well — it stabilizes the 150- to 175-grain projectiles that most deer and elk hunters reach for without over-spinning lighter varmint bullets if you run them occasionally.

The 1/2″-28 thread pitch on the muzzle is the standard for .308-bore suppressors and brakes, so you won’t need an adapter to run common accessories. The two-position safety gives you a straightforward on/off without a middle position to think about under pressure. Mossberg’s LBA (Lightning Bolt Action) trigger is adjustable, which lets you dial pull weight to your preference rather than living with a fixed factory setting. The receiver wears the same Patriot Brown Cerakote finish as the barrel, giving the metal consistent protection against moisture and abrasion in rough weather.
