The PXT designation refers to Proof’s carbon fiber-wrapped barrel construction, which bonds a thin steel core to a structural carbon fiber shell. That combination cuts weight significantly compared to a comparable steel barrel of the same contour and length without reducing the rigidity that matters for repeatable shot-to-shot accuracy — a steel barrel lightened by turning down the profile loses stiffness at the same rate it loses weight, while the carbon wrap restores torsional stiffness without adding back the mass.

The 1:8 twist rate is well matched to the .284 bore for the class of long, high-BC projectiles — think 180-grain and heavier VLD or hybrid bullets — that make the cartridge worth running in the first place.
