Description
The Proof Research Elevation MTR 2.0 is built for hunters and long-range precision shooters who need a compact, capable bolt-action without giving up performance. It is a deliberate choice for backcountry use, where a shorter, lighter platform matters more than a few extra feet per second of muzzle velocity.
The 7mm PRC cartridge was engineered around high-BC, heavy-for-caliber projectiles, and the 1:8-inch twist rate is matched to that intent — it stabilizes the long, high-BC bullets that make the 7mm PRC competitive at extended ranges. Shooters selecting ammunition should prioritize heavier projectiles in the 160–175 grain range to take full advantage of that stabilization rather than reaching for lighter, faster loads better suited to a faster twist.
A 20-inch barrel in this chambering represents a considered compromise. The 7mm PRC runs efficiently out of longer tubes, but the 20-inch length keeps the overall rifle manageable in a saddle scabbard or on a technical climb while still producing meaningful velocity. The tradeoff is real but acceptable for the use case this rifle is designed around.
The Midnight finish is Proof Research’s own designation for this configuration, not a generic color — it reflects the company’s approach of building rifles as integrated systems rather than assembled components. The Elevation MTR 2.0 sits in Proof Research’s hunting-focused line, which prioritizes weight reduction and field durability alongside the carbon fiber barrel technology the company is known for.
With a 3+1 capacity in a bolt-action package, this rifle is sized and configured for the practical demands of a hunting trip rather than bench competition, though its mechanical precision makes it capable well beyond that context.
