Description
The Proof Research Prefit barrel in .308 Winchester is built for bolt-action shooters who want to move a carbon fiber wrapped barrel onto a suppressor-host platform without sending a complete rifle to a gunsmith for a full barrel swap. The Q Fix prefit designation means this barrel is cut and threaded to fit directly into the Q Fix action system, and the 5/8-24 muzzle thread is the standard pitch for .308-bore suppressors, so the barrel is ready to mount one without additional machining.
The 1:10 twist rate is well matched to the .308 Winchester case and the bullet weights most commonly loaded for it—typically 150 to 175 grain projectiles. A faster twist would stabilize the heaviest long-range pills, but 1:10 covers the practical range from hunting loads to 175-grain match ammunition without over-spinning lighter bullets and degrading accuracy. That makes this a useful general-purpose barrel rather than one optimized exclusively for a narrow bullet weight window.
Proof Research wraps the steel bore liner in carbon fiber to shed weight without sacrificing the rigidity that steel provides at the bore surface. At two pounds, the barrel leaves meaningful mass reduction headroom when building or reconfiguring a rifle, which matters when the rest of the platform—action, optic, and suppressor—adds up quickly. The carbon fiber shell also dissipates heat faster than an equivalent steel profile, which helps maintain point-of-impact consistency across strings of fire.
