Description
The Proof Research Pre-Fit PXT barrel for the Tikka T3x is built for shooters who want to move beyond the factory tube without pulling the barreled action from the stock or sending the rifle to a gunsmith for a full rebarrel. The pre-fit design uses Tikka’s own tenon dimensions and headspacing conventions, which means installation can be done at home with basic tools and without a lathe. That matters because a conventional barrel swap on a bolt-action requires a barrel vise, a receiver wrench, headspace gauges, and the ability to cut threads to spec — the PXT system removes all of that from the equation.
Chambered in 7 PRC, this barrel is aimed at hunters and long-range shooters running heavier, high-BC projectiles in the 160–175 grain class. The 7 PRC case was designed from the outset to drive those bullets at velocities that make the cartridge competitive at extended distances while staying within a standard long-action footprint. At 22 inches, the barrel length recovers the velocity that a shorter hunting profile would sacrifice — meaningful with a cartridge whose performance is closely tied to how much powder it can efficiently burn.
The carbon fiber composite construction is Proof Research’s core technology. Their barrels wrap a steel liner in carbon fiber, which sheds weight relative to a steel barrel of the same profile while also conducting heat away from the bore during extended strings of fire. A lighter barrel changes how a rifle balances in hand and off a bipod, and a cooler bore sustains accuracy longer in field conditions where back-to-back shots are realistic.
This barrel is a direct drop-in replacement for T3x owners looking to get more out of the platform without building a new rifle around it.
