Description
The Tundra is Proof Research’s answer to a specific problem: building a bolt-action rifle light enough to carry all day in the field without sacrificing the rigidity that precision shooting demands. It is aimed at hunters and long-range shooters who move on foot through rough country and need a rifle that keeps up without punishing them for it.
The .300 PRC was designed from the ground up as a long-action magnum cartridge optimized for high-BC, heavy-for-caliber projectiles seated correctly rather than jammed into the lands to fit a standard magazine box. The result is a cartridge that feeds cleanly and leaves the bullet’s geometry intact — a meaningful advantage when you are loading rounds under field conditions. The 1-in-9 twist rate is well-matched to the heavier long-range bullets that make the .300 PRC worthwhile, stabilizing the high-BC projectiles that give the cartridge its edge at extended distances. Shooters running lighter, shorter bullets will still see adequate stabilization, but this rifle is clearly built around the loads the cartridge was designed for.
The 22-inch barrel represents a deliberate compromise: it recovers a meaningful portion of the velocity the .300 PRC gives up compared to longer tubes, while keeping the overall package short enough to maneuver in dense terrain or from a blind. Proof Research’s carbon fiber barrel wrapping reduces weight at the end of the rifle where it matters most for balance, and the material’s stiffness-to-weight ratio allows the barrel to shed heat faster than a comparable steel profile — relevant when multiple shots in a session are part of the plan. The Green Jungle finish is applied to the stock and is worth naming because it is not simply a paint color; it is the manufacturer’s own designation for this specific pattern and surface treatment.
