The LEAP L3R is built for hunters who need to identify, range, and shoot at night or in conditions where visible-light optics are useless. It suits the serious predator or hog hunter who wants a single piece of glass that handles target acquisition and distance measurement without mounting a separate rangefinder alongside the scope.
The foundation is a 384×288 thermal sensor with a noise equivalent temperature difference below 20mK, which means the detector resolves very small heat signatures — useful when a coyote at distance is partially obscured by brush and presenting only a sliver of body heat. Where a coarser sensor blends that animal into background clutter, the finer thermal sensitivity keeps it distinct.
What separates the L3R from fixed-magnification thermal scopes is continuous optical zoom across its full magnification range. Optical zoom changes the focal length of the lens itself rather than stretching a digital image, so the image does not degrade as you increase magnification. You can push to higher power for a precise aiming picture without accepting the softness that digital-only zoom introduces. The scope still offers digital zoom as a supplement, with AI-based pixel reconstruction to limit the typical softness at the upper end of digital ranges.
The integrated laser rangefinder measures out to 1,312 yards and feeds directly into an onboard ballistic calculator. Once you have a measured distance, the scope updates your aiming point automatically based on your saved zeroing profile, removing the arithmetic between trigger pulls. The AMOLED display carries a 1920×1080 resolution and a 5.6-micrometer pixel pitch, which keeps the image sharp rather than blocky when you are at higher magnification.
