Where the factory frame gives you a tight, unforgiving insertion point, this magwell widens and flares the magazine well entrance so the magazine finds its way in with far less precision required from the shooter — a meaningful advantage when your hands are moving fast under match pressure.

Shield Arms machines it from 6061-T6 aluminum billet, which keeps weight low while giving the part enough rigidity to survive repeated hard magazine strikes without deforming. The Type II anodized finish bonds to the aluminum at a molecular level rather than sitting on top of it, so it resists chipping and wear at the contact points where a raw or painted surface would eventually show bare metal. The CNC machining process holds the geometry tight enough that installation is drop-in against the Gen 5 frame — no fitting, no grinding.

It’s worth understanding the trade-off relative to Shield Arms’ own Carry Magwell: the Premium’s funnel geometry is more aggressive and opens a larger insertion area, which is exactly what you want for USPSA Production, IPSC, Steel Challenge, or high-round-count training. That same geometry adds bulk to the grip frame, making it less suited to concealed carry.
