Description
The 277 Fury AccuBond load from Sig Sauer is built around two problems that hunters of elk-sized and larger game regularly run into: rounds that don’t retain enough energy at distance, and cases that can’t handle the pressure needed to solve that problem. Sig’s hybrid case construction addresses the pressure side of the equation directly. Rather than a conventional all-brass case, the case combines a stainless steel head section with a brass body, which allows the cartridge to operate at significantly higher chamber pressures than a standard brass case of the same dimensions could sustain. That higher operating pressure translates into more muzzle velocity without requiring a longer cartridge or a larger powder charge.
The projectile is a 150-grain Nosler AccuBond, a bonded polymer-tip design. Bonding the lead core to the jacket prevents the two from separating on impact, which matters when a bullet is driven hard into heavy bone or enters at an angle. The polymer tip initiates reliable expansion at a range of velocities, so the bullet opens consistently whether the shot is taken at close range or stretched out. The result is a wound channel wide enough to do real work on large animals while still maintaining enough retained weight to reach vitals through shoulder muscle and rib.
At a muzzle velocity of 2,830 feet per second and 2,668 foot-pounds of muzzle energy, this load produces a comparatively flat trajectory and carries meaningful energy well past ranges where most traditional 270-class cartridges begin to fall off. It comes packaged in boxes of 20 rounds, with cases of 200 available for those who want to stock up or work up a load before a hunt.
