The Cross PRS is Sig Sauer’s answer to a specific problem: most bolt-action precision rifles are either purpose-built competition guns that are miserable to carry, or field rifles that require significant aftermarket investment before they are genuinely competitive. The Cross PRS ships ready to sit on a tripod or bipod immediately, with an 18-inch two-piece free-floating handguard that runs a full-length steel Arca rail — so connection to tripod heads that accept Arca-Swiss dovetails requires no adapter plate or additional hardware.

The barrel is a heavy-contour stainless steel unit with 5R rifling, a pattern that uses five lands and grooves with angled transitions rather than sharp corners. This reduces the deformation a bullet undergoes as it engages the rifling, which tends to tighten groups and extends barrel life by easing the stress on jacket material. A 1:10-inch twist is well-suited to the full range of standard .308 Winchester projectiles, from 150-grain hunting bullets up through 175-grain match-grade loads commonly used at distance, without over-stabilizing lighter bullets.

The barrel threads accept a suppressor or muzzle device on a 5/8″-24 pattern, the standard for this caliber. The folding steel stock keeps the overall package manageable in transit without sacrificing the rigidity that a precision chassis requires, and the ambidextrous PRS-style thumb rest selector integrates the safety into a grip geometry that competitive shooters are already familiar with. The rifle ships with one 10-round AICS-pattern polymer magazine. At 14.2 pounds, the Cross PRS is a deliberate, positional shooter’s tool — that weight works for you on a supported position by dampening muzzle movement between shots.
