Description
This is a drop-in threaded barrel designed for S&W M&P pistols chambered in .45 ACP, built specifically to accept a suppressor in place of the factory barrel. The standard M&P .45 ACP barrel is unthreaded, so running a suppressor requires a replacement like this one—the threading is the entire point of the part, and SilencerCo has matched the geometry to the M&P platform so installation is a straightforward swap without gunsmithing.
The .578×28 thread pattern is the industry-standard pitch for .45 ACP suppressors, meaning it will mate directly with the Osprey 45, Hybrid 46, and other SilencerCo cans threaded to that specification, as well as any third-party suppressor using the same pattern. If you are pairing this barrel with a specific suppressor, verify the thread spec before purchasing rather than assuming compatibility from caliber alone.
A 1:10-inch right-hand twist stabilizes the full range of common .45 ACP bullet weights reliably—from 185-grain hollowpoints through 230-grain hardball—without over-stabilizing the lighter loads. That matters when running subsonic ammunition through a suppressor, where bullet weight and velocity choices interact with the twist rate to determine whether the bullet exits cleanly. The 1:10 rate is well-suited to the 230-grain subsonic loads that are the natural pairing for suppressed .45 ACP shooting.
Because this is a factory-spec replacement rather than an extended barrel, it maintains the sight radius and holster compatibility of the original pistol. Shooters who want a suppressor-height sight solution to see over a mounted can will need to source those separately.
