Description

The Safariland Comp III is a competition-grade speedloader built for revolver shooters who treat reload speed as a skill worth training. It fits S&W K-Frame revolvers chambered in .38 Special and .357 Magnum, as well as Dan Wesson 38/357 revolvers, giving classic wheelgun platforms a meaningful performance upgrade over slower twist-knob or friction-fit designs.

The Comp III uses a spring-driven release mechanism rather than a manually rotated collar. When you press the loader into the cylinder, the rounds drop free automatically — the spring does the work, so there is no secondary hand movement required to actuate the release. That single-motion operation is what separates spring-driven loaders from the twist-to-release style: you seat, press, and withdraw, and the cylinder is full. The tradeoff is that a spring-driven loader is slightly more particular about alignment than a friction-fit type, which rewards consistent training rather than forgiving sloppy presentation.

The loader holds six rounds, matching the cylinder capacity of the revolvers it is designed for. Safariland notes that depending on the specific revolver and grip configuration, some aftermarket or oversized grips may need to be evaluated for clearance before the loader will seat cleanly — factory-profile grips generally present no issue.
