Speer’s Gold Dot line was developed specifically for personal protection and has seen decades of adoption by law enforcement agencies — this is the same load available to civilian shooters, not a reduced-spec consumer version. The .327 Federal Magnum chambering generates enough energy to drive the 100-grain Gold Dot hollow point to 1,500 feet per second from a 4-inch vented test barrel, producing 500 foot-pounds at the muzzle. That velocity matters here because the Gold Dot hollow point is engineered to begin expanding reliably across a wide range of impact conditions, including after passing through intermediate barriers.
The construction method behind that reliability is Speer’s Uni-Cor process, in which the jacket is electrochemically bonded to the lead core molecule by molecule from the very start of bullet formation rather than applied afterward. Because the bond extends through the entire jacket-core interface rather than just at the base or cannelure, there is little mechanical opportunity for the two components to separate on impact. Retained weight stays high, which preserves penetration depth even as the nose expands. The hollow point cavity is formed with the same precision as the bullet body, so expansion initiates consistently rather than depending on tissue pressure to overcome an irregular opening.
Nickel-plated brass resists corrosion and makes for easier chamber extraction under hard use, and the sealed primer protects against moisture intrusion — both practical considerations for ammunition carried daily rather than shot at a range session and replaced. Each box contains 20 rounds.
