Description

Speer Gold Dot is a serious choice for anyone carrying a compact .380 ACP pistol for personal protection. It was developed alongside law enforcement agencies and has seen decades of field use in duty and defensive roles, which means the engineering behind it reflects real-world performance requirements rather than range targets alone.

The bullet itself uses a process called Uni-Cor bonding, where the lead core is electrochemically bonded to the copper jacket one atom at a time. The practical result is a bullet that resists core-jacket separation on impact far more reliably than a conventionally cup-and-core design. That retained mass translates directly into more consistent penetration depth and terminal expansion across a wider range of intermediate barriers — clothing, glass, and similar materials that can strip an unbonded jacket prematurely.

The hollow-point cavity is engineered to begin expanding reliably at the relatively modest velocities typical of short-barreled .380 pistols. At 1,040 fps from a 3.75-inch test barrel, there is enough energy on board to initiate expansion, but the Gold Dot’s cavity geometry is calibrated to open consistently even if real-world velocity runs somewhat lower than that figure. Nickel-plated brass resists corrosion during long-term carry, and the sealed primer protects against moisture intrusion — both practical considerations for ammunition that may spend months chambered or in a carry magazine before it is ever fired. This is a 20-round box, sized for topping off carry stock rather than range practice.
