The SureFire EP5 Sonic Defender Max is a full-block earplug built for environments where continuous, high-level noise is the primary concern — industrial worksites, shooting ranges, motorsports, or any situation where you need maximum attenuation rather than filtered situational awareness. Unlike the filtered EP3 and EP4 models in the Sonic Defender line, the EP5 carries no acoustic filter, which means it blocks rather than attenuates selectively. That trade-off is straightforward: you give up the ability to hear ambient sound and conversation, and in return you get a substantially higher noise reduction ceiling.

The earpiece uses a triple-flanged stem made from a hypoallergenic medical-grade polymer. The triple-flange geometry creates a layered seal progressively deeper into the ear canal, which contributes both to the 26 dB NRR and to stability during extended wear. SureFire’s patented EarLock retention rings use seven contact points against the concha bowl to hold each earpiece in position consistently — useful when you need to reseat them quickly or confirm fit without a mirror. The polymer construction is soft enough for all-day use and is rated for up to six months of service with proper care, making these genuinely reusable rather than disposable.

The low-profile stem design keeps the earpiece from protruding in a way that creates pressure points under a helmet, behind a face shield, or against a phone. A 26-inch polymer lanyard is included and keeps the pair connected when removed between strings or tasks. Each set ships in a carry case.
