Description
The SureFire EP4 Sonic Defenders Plus are filtered earplugs built for environments where you need to stay aware of your surroundings while still keeping your hearing intact. That balance is the central design problem they solve: conventional foam plugs block everything indiscriminately, while these use a proprietary noise-reducing filter to pass safe sound levels through and attenuate sounds above 85 dB — the threshold at which hearing damage begins. With the filter caps inserted, they carry a 24 dB Noise Reduction Rating, which covers sustained range fire and most mechanical noise exposure. When you need full situational awareness, the caps can be removed to let ambient sound pass through more freely.
Retention is handled by SureFire’s patented EarLock rings, which use seven contact points to seat the earpiece consistently in the concha bowl. That consistent fit matters not just for comfort over long sessions, but because a loose or inconsistent seal undermines the rated attenuation. The triple-flanged stem forms the acoustic seal itself and is sized for medium ear canals — fit to the concha bowl, not to a generic small-medium-large body size, so choosing the right size is worth taking seriously.
The hypoallergenic medical-grade polymer is flexible enough for all-day wear and sits low-profile enough to avoid interference with a helmet, protective mask, or supplemental earmuffs layered over them. They are also compatible with a range of radio communication earpiece systems from manufacturers including Motorola, Peltor, Thales, and Silynx. Each pair ships with a carry case and polymer lanyard.
