Description

The Timney 533 is a two-stage replacement trigger for the Remington 700 and its clones, designed for shooters who want a deliberate, staged pull rather than a single-stage break. That distinction matters practically: the first stage lets you take up slack and settle into position before committing to the shot, which is why two-stage designs have long been favored in precision rifle competition and field hunting where conditions change between the moment you shoulder the rifle and the moment you break the shot.

Timney machines the trigger housing from anodized aluminum and cuts the sears from solid steel using EDM, a process that produces geometry precise enough to function consistently without hand-fitting. All three sears receive a Teflon-nickel coating to reduce friction at the surfaces that actually move against each other, which keeps the feel consistent over the life of the trigger rather than varying as surfaces wear in. The trigger shoe and safety are carbon nitrided, a treatment that hardens the outer layer of the metal and makes those surfaces significantly more resistant to wear than the base material alone. The first-stage pull is factory set at one pound, with the second stage also set at one pound, giving you a clear tactile wall between the two stages and a break that does not require excessive force once you reach it.

Installation on the Remington 700 requires only removing and replacing the existing action pins — no drilling, tapping, or permanent modification to the rifle. Compatibility extends beyond the standard 700 to a wide range of 700-footprint actions from other manufacturers. The trigger is right-hand orientation and includes an integrated safety.
