The core of how these work is sound-activated compression. Ambient sound passes through the dual omnidirectional microphones and plays back through full-range HD speakers, keeping you aware of your surroundings, range commands, and conversation. When a shot fires, the electronics suppress the spike fast enough to protect your hearing, then return to normal pass-through. The 23 dB noise reduction rating handles the mechanical, passive side of protection when the electronics are off or the batteries run out.

A recessed volume knob keeps adjustments from happening accidentally when the muffs are in a bag or brush is pushing against them.
