Description
The Wilson Combat Shok-Buff Recoil System is a drop-in upgrade for Government and Gold Cup model 1911 pistols chambered in .45 ACP — a cartridge that generates enough impulse to wear on both springs and frame components over time. This kit addresses that wear at the source rather than masking it. The centerpiece is a one-piece stainless steel guide rod and plug that replaces the factory two-piece arrangement, maintaining more consistent spring compression through the full stroke and reducing the chance of spring kink or bind during cycling.
The kit ships with two recoil springs — a 10 lb reduced-power spring and an 18 lb extra-power spring — so you can tune the system to your load rather than accepting a single factory compromise. Lighter competition ammunition typically runs more reliably against a reduced-power spring, while heavier or hotter defensive loads benefit from the stiffer option. Six Shok-Buff polymer washers sit against the spring plug and absorb the rearward shock at slide-to-frame impact, extending the service life of the frame and softening the abrupt stop at the end of the recoil stroke. An extra-power firing pin return spring is also included to complement the tuned recoil timing. Installation requires no machining or frame modification — the system is sized to fit the Government and Gold Cup frames as-built.
