The YHM-9384 is a low-profile gas block designed for builders who want to run a rifle-length or mid-length handguard on a carbine-length barrel without a front sight tower getting in the way. Replacing a fixed front sight base with a compact block like this is the standard approach when fitting a free-float rail that would otherwise conflict with a taller, pinned gas block.
Yankee Hill Machine chose 4140 steel for the body, which carries the same heat-treatment characteristics as mil-spec bolt carrier group components and handles the thermal cycling that a gas block sees in sustained fire. The Black Oxide finish provides corrosion resistance without adding meaningful thickness to the bore fit.
Retention uses two clamping screws rather than set screws that bear directly on the barrel surface. The clamping design distributes load around the barrel circumference instead of concentrating it at two small contact points, which makes proper torque easier to achieve and reduces the risk of the block walking under recoil. Both screws are driven with a 9/64-inch Allen wrench. The slotted construction on the block simplifies alignment with the barrel’s gas port during installation — you can see the port through the slot and confirm registration before fully seating the screws.
The gas port on the block measures 0.125 inches, sized to work with standard direct-impingement barrels without restricting flow. At just under an ounce and a half heavier than a bare barrel and only 0.95 inches long, it adds virtually nothing to the profile that a handguard must clear. Made in the USA.
