When you’re building or restoring a pistol-length AR-15 platform, the gas tube is one of those components that tends to get overlooked until something goes wrong. Yankee Hill Machine’s pistol-length gas tube is designed to handle that short gas system without compromise. Pistol-length gas systems run a shorter dwell time than carbine or mid-length configurations, which means the gas port sees pressure earlier relative to bullet travel — an important consideration when tuning a suppressed or unsuppressed short-barreled build for reliable cycling with a range of loads.

Rather than using standard steel, YHM builds this tube from 304 stainless steel and then applies a Melonite finish. Melonite is a ferritic nitrocarburizing treatment that works into the surface of the metal rather than sitting on top of it, which makes it more resistant to the corrosive combustion gases that flow through the tube over thousands of rounds. The result is also what gives these tubes their dark, even appearance — the same look YHM uses on its own YHM-15 rifles and carbines as standard equipment. A matching roll pin is included so you have everything needed for a complete installation. For builders who want consistent aesthetics across a vented handguard where the tube is visible, the Melonite finish ties the assembly together without looking like a field replacement.
