That separation means the bolt carrier runs cleaner through extended strings of fire, and the piston’s operation tends to reduce the sharp rearward impulse spike that direct-impingement systems produce — felt recoil arrives as a slightly softer, more linear push rather than an abrupt snap. The 20-inch barrel, finished in black nitride for corrosion resistance, gives 7.62 NATO propellant the dwell time it needs to reach its velocity potential. A 1:10-inch twist rate stabilizes the standard-weight projectiles that dominate .308 service and match ammunition — think 147- to 175-grain bullets — without overdriving the lighter hunting options.
