Description

The HD-50 is built specifically for .50 BMG and heavy extreme long range rifles — platforms that generate enough recoil to stress components that work fine on lighter calibers. Accu-Tac addressed that directly by engineering larger arm lock lugs into the design, which keeps the leg-locking mechanism intact under the repeated, violent impulse those cartridges produce. The tradeoff for that added robustness is a bipod that is heavier and more substantial than what you would put on a 6.5 Creedmoor rifle, but on a .50 BMG that weight is appropriate and largely irrelevant given the host rifle’s mass.

The canting system uses an adjustable throw lever rather than a friction knob, which lets you lock the cant angle positively once you have it dialed in. The lever can be repositioned on the body for left- or right-hand preference, and tension is tunable so the cant moves with controlled resistance rather than flopping freely. Nine discrete height settings give the legs a meaningful range of adjustment, and the legs can stow forward against the rifle or drop straight down to ninety degrees depending on your shooting position and surface. At ninety degrees the stance spans from a narrow setting to a wide one, which matters on a rifle this heavy because a wider base translates directly into less lateral movement under recoil.

The center hub is notably wide relative to a standard-duty bipod, and that geometry is the structural foundation that allows the HD-50 to handle the loads a .50 BMG imposes. Construction is 6061-T6 aluminum with high-strength steel hardware throughout, finished in a Type III military-specification hard anodize in Flat Black. The Picatinny-compatible mount version reviewed here attaches directly to a standard rail without an adapter.
