The Ballistic Advantage Premium Black Series 16-inch .22 ARC barrel is built for precision-oriented AR-15 configurations where the goal is consistent, accurate fire at extended distances rather than a lightweight or compact package. The SPR profile — heavier than a standard government contour forward of the gas block — gives the barrel more thermal mass under sustained fire and adds rigidity that helps maintain point of impact as the barrel heats up, at the cost of some carry weight. Ballistic Advantage machines this barrel from 416R stainless steel, which is well suited to accuracy-focused work because of its consistent grain structure, and finishes it with a QPQ treatment. QPQ — a salt-bath nitriding process — hardens the surface, improves corrosion resistance, and does it without adding meaningful dimensional buildup the way a coating would. The feed ramp extension is coated in Nickel Boron, which reduces friction and resists fouling in a high-wear area where failures tend to concentrate.
