This barrel is built for the shooter who wants to push .22 ARC to its practical ceiling in a standard AR-15 platform. The SPR profile — heavier under the handguard and relieved toward the muzzle — balances rigidity where it matters for accuracy against the weight savings you need when the rifle is going to shoulder for extended periods. At 18 inches, the rifle-length gas system that comes with this configuration spaces the gas port far enough down the bore that the bolt carrier is still accelerating gently as the bullet exits, which translates to a longer, softer recoil impulse compared to what a mid-length or carbine setup produces on a barrel this size.

The bore and exterior are machined from 416R stainless steel, a grade chosen specifically for barrel-making because its sulfur content aids in cutting precise rifling. Ballistic Advantage then applies a QPQ finish — a salt-bath nitride process that hardens both the bore surface and the exterior simultaneously, leaving the steel more corrosion-resistant than a simple bluing while also reducing friction without a separate coating that could flake. The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28, the standard pattern for .22-caliber AR work, so suppressors and muzzle devices install without an adapter.

The 1:7 twist rate is on the faster end for .22 ARC and is suited to stabilizing heavier, longer projectiles that the cartridge is designed around — think bullets in the 62- to 90-grain range rather than light varmint loads.
