The BCM MK2 Recoil Mitigation System addresses a real limitation of the standard carbine buffer setup: inconsistent carrier velocity. A conventional carbine spring and buffer let the bolt carrier arrive at the rear of the receiver with timing that varies shot to shot, which contributes to bolt bounce and a less predictable recoil impulse. The MK2 replaces that entire assembly with a system built around more controlled internal movement.
The core of the design is an internal counterweight that travels a greater distance than what a standard carbine buffer allows. That additional travel absorbs more of the rearward energy before the carrier decelerates, which is what reduces felt recoil without throttling the gas system or sacrificing the dwell time needed to run reliably. An internal spring keeps the counterweight from shifting freely between shots, so its position at the start of each cycle is consistent rather than random — that consistency is what translates into more predictable timing across the operating cycle.
The receiver extension in this kit runs approximately three-quarters of an inch longer than a standard carbine tube. That extra length is what makes room for the counterweight to do its work, and it also means the system ships with a Mil-Spec M16A4 rifle action spring rather than the shorter M4 carbine spring. The rifle spring has more coils, which broadens the range of ammunition and gas pressures the system handles comfortably. The tube is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and hard coat anodized, runs eight positions, and accepts Mil-Spec diameter stocks. Because the tube is longer than a carbine extension, some Mil-Spec stocks will not collapse fully against the lock nut — worth confirming against your stock’s collapsed length before ordering. The kit includes the buffer, action spring, receiver extension, castle nut, and a QD end plate.
