Description

The Bootleg Low Profile Gas Block is a straightforward replacement or build component for AR-platform rifles where a full-size block would interfere with a free-float handguard. By sitting below the bore line, it clears nearly any handguard profile, letting the tube contact the receiver directly rather than the gas block — which is the whole point of a free-float setup. If you are running a standard front sight base, swapping to a low profile block like this one is the necessary first step before the handguard goes on.

The block is machined from 4140 steel, a chromium-molybdenum alloy that handles the thermal and pressure cycling at the gas port without distorting over time the way softer materials can. The Salt Bath Nitriding finish — Bootleg calls it SBN — diffuses nitrogen into the surface rather than simply coating it, so the corrosion resistance extends into the metal itself rather than relying on a layer that can chip or wear at the port opening. That matters in a component that sees both heat and bore gas residue every time the rifle fires.

The bore diameter is sized to fit standard .750-inch barrel journals, which covers the large majority of mil-spec and aftermarket AR barrels. Installation is a standard clamp-and-set-screw process, and the block is compatible with Bootleg’s own upper assemblies as well as conventional builds. It is a non-adjustable design, so gas volume is fixed at whatever the port and gas tube length dictate — appropriate for a rifle running factory loads or a dedicated upper where tuning is handled elsewhere in the system.
