Description

The Bushnell A1 is a compact 8×25 roof-prism binocular built around the idea that capable optics should be small enough to actually carry. At roughly the size of a large smartphone, it fits a jacket pocket or daypack lid without demanding a dedicated case, which makes it a practical choice for hiking, hunting, or any situation where binoculars tend to get left behind because they are too bulky to bother with.

The roof-prism configuration is what lets the barrels sit in a straight, narrow tube rather than the offset layout of a Porro-prism design. That geometry is responsible for the compact footprint, though it requires more precise alignment and more optical coatings to deliver comparable image brightness. Bushnell addresses the brightness side with fully multicoated optics, meaning every air-to-glass surface in the optical path carries an anti-reflection coating rather than just the outer elements — which directly affects how much light reaches your eye in dawn or dusk conditions where compact glass is most likely to be tested.

The EXO Barrier lens treatment bonds a hydrophobic and oil-resistant layer to the exterior glass. Rain, fingerprints, and dust are easier to clear off a coated surface than bare glass, and in field conditions where wiping with a shirt is sometimes the only option, that matters. The body carries an IPX7 waterproof rating, meaning it is designed to handle submersion in water up to one meter deep, not just splash resistance.
