Description

The Bushnell A5 8×42 is a full-size binocular built for hunters and field observers who spend long days glassing and need optical quality that doesn’t ask them to make excuses for it. The 42mm objective gathers enough light to stay useful in the low-contrast conditions of early morning and late evening, when most shots happen and most lesser glass starts to fall apart.

Bushnell specifies BAK4 prisms with both dielectric and phase-correction coatings, which work together to preserve brightness and color fidelity through the prism stack rather than simply passing light through unmanaged. Fully multicoated optics on every air-to-glass surface reduce reflection at each transition, keeping the image clean rather than milky. The EXO Barrier coating bonds to the exterior lens surfaces at the molecular level, repelling water, oil, and debris so that field condensation wipes away cleanly without smearing or streaking.

The close focus distance of 6.6 feet makes the A5 usable for observing nearby subjects—insects, birds at a feeder, sign on the ground—without having to swap for a separate instrument. The 393-foot field of view at 1,000 yards gives you enough width to track moving animals without constantly re-acquiring through the eyepieces. IPX7 waterproofing means the chassis is sealed against full submersion, not just rain, and the internal nitrogen fill prevents fogging when you move between temperature extremes. The wave-textured rubber armor over the body provides grip in wet or cold hands without adding appreciable bulk. A snap-lock strap system, microfiber carry bag, and rope strap are included.
