Description
The Bushnell R3 is a rimfire-focused riflescope built around the Drop Zone 22LR reticle, which is designed specifically to take the guesswork out of holdover when shooting .22 LR at extended distances. Rather than requiring the shooter to dial in elevation for each distance change, the DZ22 reticle provides pre-calculated holdover points calibrated to the trajectory of standard .22 LR ammunition — a practical advantage when moving between targets at varying ranges without time to adjust turrets.
The 3–9x magnification range covers the practical span for most rimfire use: 3x offers enough field of view for closer targets and informal shooting, while 9x brings sufficient resolution to read groups or pick out small targets at the distances where .22 LR holdover becomes meaningful. The 40mm objective lens is large enough to gather useful light without adding unnecessary weight or requiring tall rings that change cheek weld geometry.
EXO Barrier lens coating is Bushnell’s external lens treatment designed to repel water, oil, and debris — keeping the glass cleaner under field conditions without needing frequent wiping. The multi-coated optics are intended to maximize light transmission through the system. Eye relief of 3.5 inches and an overall length of 15.3 inches make this a manageable fit on standard rimfire platforms without overhang or balance issues. For a shooter who wants a dedicated .22 LR optic that does the ranging math through the reticle rather than through turret adjustments, this scope addresses that need directly.
