Description

The R5 10×42 is built for hunters who need dependable glass from first light through last light, without hauling something heavy into the field. The optical system centers on BaK-4 roof prisms treated with both dielectric and PC-3 phase coatings working in combination: dielectric coatings reflect more light back through the prism rather than losing it at each glass surface, while the phase coating corrects the wave misalignment that a roof prism design inherently introduces, which otherwise shows up as reduced sharpness and color fringing around edges. The result is a prism system that approaches the optical efficiency of a porro-prism layout while keeping the body compact and straight-handled.

All lens surfaces are fully multi-coated, meaning every air-to-glass interface receives multiple layers of anti-reflection treatment rather than just the outer elements. This matters most in the kind of flat, angled light you get hunting early morning or late evening, when a less thoroughly coated system will wash out or flatten contrast. EXO Barrier, Bushnell’s permanent hydrophobic lens coating, sheds water, oil, and grit from the outer lenses so brief smearing or rain contact clears quickly without repeated wiping. The chassis is sealed to IPX7 waterproof standard and nitrogen-purged against internal fogging when moving between temperature extremes.
