Description
Modern AR-platform handguards have trended toward slimmer profiles, which improves handling but creates a real problem: thin aluminum sheds heat slowly and transfers it quickly to the shooter’s support hand. The Cole-TAC SD Handguard Wrap is a straightforward fix for that. It sits over your existing handguard and puts a thermal barrier between the tube and your palm, so extended range sessions or back-to-back strings of fire don’t end with a burned hand or an involuntary grip adjustment.
Construction is two layers of Cole-TAC’s Squadron material, laser-cut and laminated together. The lamination keeps the wrap from delaminating or shifting under friction and heat, and the laser-cut slots serve double duty: they let hot air escape rather than trap it against the handguard, and they give you pass-through attachment points for mounting additional accessories or routing a sling without removing the wrap. The Multicam Black finish is a matte pattern that breaks up reflection without being a liability in low-light environments.
At 6.5 inches, the wrap covers a practical section of most mid-length and carbine-length handguards without crowding a foregrip or hand stop. It is sized for AR-style rifles and fits around that geometry specifically. If you run your support hand far forward or use a handguard shorter than the wrap, check your measurements before ordering. For anyone doing sustained fire drills, hunting from a blind where a quick follow-up shot is common, or simply running a lightweight build that runs hot, this is a low-cost, low-complexity solution that does not require modifying your existing setup.
