Description

Modern AR-platform handguards have trended toward slim, low-profile designs that look clean and reduce weight, but that geometry comes with a real cost: less material between the shooter’s hand and a barrel and gas system that build heat quickly during sustained fire. The Cole-TAC SD Handguard Wrap exists to close that gap without adding bulk to the rifle itself.

The wrap is constructed from two laminated layers of laser-cut Squadron material. Squadron is a structured textile used in shooting accessories for its combination of thermal resistance and grip texture — it slows heat transfer to the hand while giving bare or gloved palms something to hold onto rather than a slick polymer or aluminum surface. The laminated construction keeps the two layers bonded flat against the handguard rather than bunching or shifting under use.

This variant carries no slots, meaning the full surface area of both layers works together as a continuous thermal barrier. A slotted version trades some heat protection for reduced weight and the ability to access M-LOK or KeyMod attachment points through the wrap; if your handguard real estate is already spoken for and heat management is the primary concern, the no-slots design is the straightforward choice.

The wrap is sized to fit AR-platform rifles and installs without tools or permanent modification, so it can move between hosts or come off entirely when conditions change. At 6.5 inches long, it covers the area of the handguard most likely to see sustained hand contact during a firing string. Black Squadron finish keeps the profile low and matches standard mil-spec and aftermarket furniture without drawing attention.
