Description

This is a collector’s piece first and a shooter’s pistol second. TALO commissioned exactly 500 of these Colt Government Model 1911s to honor the engraving artistry of Raymond J. Wielgus (1920–2010), whose work drew from western firearms traditions and the ethnographic art of Africa, Oceania, and the Americas. If you are looking for a rack-grade carry gun, this is not it. If you want a museum-quality 1911 that remains fully functional, this is a serious candidate.

The frame and slide carry hand-applied engraving and gold inlay that reflects Wielgus’s signature style — restrained linework with deliberate polishing transitions that let the metal do the visual work rather than overwhelming it with ornamentation. Select components are gold plated, and the contrast between those surfaces and the selectively polished steel is intentional, not decorative excess. The grips are Antique White Kirinite with a scalloped pattern, a material choice that resists moisture and UV degradation better than natural ivory while giving a similar visual warmth.

Each pistol carries an RJW serial number prefix as a permanent reference to Wielgus himself. The platform is the standard Colt Government Model in .45 Auto — a proven single-action semi-automatic design with a 5-inch barrel and a 7-round capacity. TALO is donating a portion of proceeds to the Cody Firearms Museum in Cody, Wyoming, where they first encountered Wielgus’s work. With a production run capped at 500, attrition through the normal collector market will only make intact examples rarer over time.
