Description
The Colt Government Combat Unit in .45 ACP is a full-size 1911 built around the demands of duty and defensive carry rather than range novelty. It suits the shooter who wants a proven single-action platform with the hardware already in place for a modern optic, without piecing together an aftermarket build.
The slide is cut from the factory to accept a miniature red dot, which matters for a single-action pistol in particular: the 1911’s short, light trigger pull rewards fast, precise target acquisition, and a mounted optic makes better use of that trigger than iron sights can at speed. The Novak front and rear sights that ship with the pistol are low-profile enough to co-witness or clear out of the way depending on how you run the gun, and their proven Novak dovetail cut means replacement options are wide.
Ambidextrous thumb safety combined with a grip safety keeps the manual-of-arms consistent for left- and right-handed shooters alike, a practical consideration for any shared duty or training environment. The grip safety also reinforces safe handling under stress without adding a separate step to the draw stroke.
The stainless barrel sits inside a frame finished in Black IonBond, a chemically bonded coating chosen for wear and corrosion resistance rather than appearance alone. G10 grip panels with a checkered, scalloped pattern give the frame a positive hold in wet or gloved conditions without requiring grip tape.
The pistol ships with one eight-round magazine and an extended magwell that reduces the margin of error on a fresh magazine insertion — relevant under any condition where fine motor control is compromised.
