Description
The Colt Competition is built for the shooter who wants a 1911 platform ready for serious range work without an extensive parts swap before it leaves the box. The foundation is a Government-length frame finished in Blue Titanium, a Special Edition two-tone treatment that pairs the frame’s color against a brushed stainless steel slide — a combination that is not simply cosmetic but also tells you at a glance that the slide is stainless, which resists corrosion and holds a consistent surface finish over time.
The barrel is a National Match fit, which means tighter lockup between barrel and slide than a standard service pistol. That tighter fit reduces the movement the barrel travels through during each cycle, and the practical result is a more consistent return to battery and improved shot-to-shot repeatability — the kind of mechanical discipline that matters when calling tight groups rather than just running drills. The dual recoil spring system helps manage felt impulse and extends the service life of the frame rails by softening the slide’s rearward travel.
The 70 Series firing pin system omits the firing pin block found in later Series 80 designs. Some shooters prefer it because the trigger linkage is mechanically simpler, which can contribute to a cleaner break with fewer parts in the pull path. The ambidextrous thumb safety accommodates left- and right-handed shooters without modification. Up top, Novak adjustable fiber optic sights let you dial the rear for elevation and windage while the red fiber optic front pulls light into the sight picture in a way that a plain black post does not, which is a genuine advantage under varied lighting conditions at an outdoor range.
G10 grips with a scalloped checkering pattern provide a secure purchase without being abrasive during extended sessions. One nine-round magazine and spare sight fibers are included.
