The CCU Government is Colt’s Combat Unit interpretation of the full-size 1911 platform, aimed at shooters who want a duty-ready pistol they can also mount an optic on without sending the slide to a machine shop. The optic-ready slide ships with a milled cut already in place, so the decision to run a red dot stays open without committing to permanent modification.

The ambidextrous thumb safety paired with a beavertail grip safety gives both right- and left-handed shooters the same manual-of-arms, and the grip safety encourages a consistently high, centered grip that keeps the bore axis where it needs to be for fast follow-up shots with a single-stack 1911. Neither safety is redundant: the thumb safety controls the sear directly, while the grip safety prevents the trigger from moving unless the hand is properly seated on the backstrap.

Novak sights front and rear are a practical choice on a pistol that may or may not wear an optic on a given day — they sit low enough not to compete with a mounted red dot, yet they remain fully usable as irons when the slide runs bare. The stainless barrel finish resists corrosion in carry conditions without requiring the same maintenance schedule as a blued or Parkerized surface. At nine rounds plus one in the chamber, capacity is what the single-stack Government frame allows, and that constraint is the trade-off a shooter accepts in exchange for the slim grip profile that defines this platform.
