Description
The Colt Competition Government is built for shooters who want a serious 1911 platform ready for USPSA, IDPA, or dedicated range work without a full custom-shop investment. It ships in 9mm, which in a steel-framed Government-length pistol produces noticeably softer muzzle flip than .45 ACP loads of comparable power factor — a practical advantage when working through strings of fire quickly. The single-action trigger keeps the pull consistent shot to shot, which matters far more in a competition context than a shorter reset you can only feel under ideal range conditions.
The Novak fiber optic front sight draws the eye to the front post under varying light conditions, while the Novak adjustable rear lets you dial elevation and windage to match your specific ammunition and hold. That combination is genuinely useful when you are shooting a 9mm load that prints differently than the pistol’s zero — you can correct for it rather than work around it. The National Match barrel is fitted with a dual recoil spring system, which spreads the operating force across two springs and generally reduces felt snap at the back of the slide while improving return-to-battery consistency under sustained firing.
The G10 grips are checkered with scalloping and carry the Colt logo; G10 holds texture through moisture and wear in a way that standard synthetic panels do not. The extended thumb safety and beavertail grip safety work together to give a high, consistent grip without exposing the web of the hand to slide bite. Two magazines are included. The blued steel finish on the receiver is traditional and requires more attention than a coated alternative, but it can be refinished and polished by any competent gunsmith — something that matters if you plan to shoot this pistol hard over years.
