Description
The Colt 1911 Competition is built for shooters who want a ready-to-run platform without spending time sourcing and fitting aftermarket components. It suits competitive shooters working in single-stack divisions as well as experienced pistol shooters who want a quality 1911 that doesn’t require a gunsmith visit before it goes to the range.
The Series 70 firing system removes the firing pin safety block found in Series 80 designs, which introduces an additional sear in the trigger linkage. With the Series 70 arrangement, the trigger connects to the sear more directly, and many 1911 shooters prefer the resulting pull for its cleaner break and shorter overtravel — a meaningful advantage when calling shots on a timer.
The National Match stainless steel barrel is fitted to tighter tolerances than a standard GI-spec barrel, which supports consistent bullet release and helps keep groups tight during extended strings of fire. A dual recoil spring arrangement spreads the energy of the slide’s rearward travel across two springs rather than one, moderating felt recoil and reducing stress on the frame over time.
Novak adjustable fiber optic sights let a shooter dial elevation and windage to match their chosen load rather than relying on a fixed sight picture. The fiber optic front element gathers available light to produce a bright aiming point, which is useful in variable lighting conditions on an outdoor range. G10 checkered grips provide a consistent purchase even with sweaty hands, and the ambidextrous safety is accessible without shifting grip for either hand.
