Description
The Colt Defender is built around a single purpose: a 1911-pattern pistol small enough to carry concealed without giving up the .45 ACP cartridge or the single-action trigger that platform is known for. It fills the gap between a full-size Government Model and a pocket gun, giving shooters who already trust the 1911 action a compact option that doesn’t ask them to relearn anything.
The single-action trigger means a short, consistent pull with a reset that experienced 1911 shooters will recognize immediately. That comes with the beavertail grip safety standard to the Defender, which lets the shooter maintain a high grip close to the bore axis while keeping the web of the hand clear of the hammer. That combination of grip geometry and trigger feel is what separates this platform from striker-fired compacts of similar size.
The two-tone finish pairs a carbon steel slide with an aluminum frame, a construction choice that keeps weight down without sacrificing the durability of steel where it matters most — on the reciprocating components that take the most stress. Novak sights sit low and snag-resistant, a profile that makes sense on a carry pistol where the gun needs to clear a holster cleanly under pressure.
Seven rounds in the magazine plus one in the chamber is the trade-off for the shorter grip frame. Shooters coming from a Government Model will notice the reduced capacity, but the Defender’s overall envelope is meaningfully more manageable for all-day carry. It ships with one seven-round magazine.
