The Colt Government Series 70 is built for the shooter who wants a historically faithful 1911 rather than a modernized derivative. It reproduces the pre-World War II Government Model configuration, which means the Series 70 firing system is present in place of the later Series 80 firing pin block. That distinction matters mechanically: the Series 70 omits the transfer bar mechanism, giving the trigger a cleaner break path that many serious 1911 shooters prefer for deliberate, aimed fire.

The barrel is a National Match–grade unit, which undergoes tighter fitting to the slide and bushing than a standard production barrel.
