The Colt Delta Elite is a full-size 1911 built around the 10mm Auto cartridge, a chambering that delivers substantially more energy than .45 ACP while staying within the familiar single-action platform. That combination makes it a practical choice for hunters who want a sidearm capable of handling medium to large game, as well as shooters who want a duty-weight pistol that doesn’t require relearning a new manual of arms.

The five-inch barrel gives 10mm its best opportunity to develop velocity, which matters more in this caliber than in milder cartridges because the round’s performance curve is steeper — a shorter barrel costs it more than it would cost a .45. Stainless Steel construction throughout means the finish holds up under field conditions and resists corrosion without demanding constant attention.

Colt built the Delta Elite on their Series 80 platform, which adds a firing pin safety that blocks the pin unless the trigger is fully pressed. The upswept beavertail grip safety positions the web of the hand higher on the frame, reducing muzzle rise and keeping the bore axis lower relative to the shooter’s grip. The skeletonized hammer reduces reciprocating mass slightly and allows a cleaner sight picture during the draw. Novak sights are a well-established low-snag design that work equally well from a holster or a field carry setup. The optics-ready configuration opens the slide for a direct-mount red dot, letting the shooter co-witness or run the pistol optics-only depending on preference.
