Description

The DD4 RIII is Daniel Defense’s fully ambidextrous AR-15-pattern rifle, built for competitive shooters and serious defensive use where a left-handed or support-side shooter can’t afford to break grip to work the controls. The lower receiver puts the bolt catch, safety selector, and magazine release within reach of either hand without repositioning, and the GRIP-N-RIP charging handle extends the same ambidextrous logic to the top of the upper receiver.

The barrel is Cold Hammer Forged from chrome moly vanadium steel, then chrome lined and HP/MPI tested — a production standard drawn from military procurement that prioritizes bore durability and consistency under sustained fire rather than featherweight savings. The 1-in-7 twist rate stabilizes heavier projectiles effectively, making this rifle well-suited to 62-grain and heavier 5.56 NATO loads, though it handles standard 55-grain ammunition without issue. A mid-length gas system — longer than a carbine-length setup — spreads the pressure curve over a greater portion of the barrel’s travel, which meaningfully softens the felt impulse and reduces bolt carrier velocity at the moment of unlocking. That translates to a more manageable recoil cycle during rapid fire.

The 12.5-inch RIS III handguard uses M-LOK slots rather than a full Picatinny rail perimeter, keeping weight down while retaining the ability to mount a 40mm grenade launcher should the application call for it. Receivers are CNC-machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with a Type III hard coat anodize. The rifle ships without sights, leaving optic selection entirely to the shooter.
