The DD5 V4 is Daniel Defense’s answer to the precision rifle market for shooters who want a gas-operated semi-automatic platform capable of reaching out past 800 yards without the compromises typical of bolt guns. It is built around the SR-25 magazine standard, which means it accepts a broad ecosystem of double-stack 20- and 25-round magazines beyond the included Magpul PMAG.

The 18-inch cold hammer-forged barrel is chrome-lined, a combination that matters for both longevity and consistency: the forging process produces a denser grain structure in the steel, while the chrome lining resists fouling and corrosion in ways that bare steel cannot match during sustained fire. The 1-in-8 twist rate stabilizes the full range of common 6.5 Creedmoor projectiles, from 120-grain loads used for higher-velocity work to the 140-grain and heavier bullets that extract the most from the cartridge’s long-range ballistic efficiency. Shooters handloading for wind-bucking performance at distance will find this twist keeps them from having to choose between bullet weights. The 5/8×24 threaded muzzle leaves the door open for a suppressor or muzzle device without requiring any permanent modification to the barrel.

An adjustable gas block lets the operator tune dwell time to match suppressed or unsuppressed conditions, reducing bolt velocity and felt recoil impulse when running a can. The bolt carrier group receives a superfinish and DLC coating from the factory, which reduces the surface friction that accelerates wear and makes cleaning faster after extended range sessions. Daniel Defense uses a four-bolt barrel-to-receiver connection on the DD5 platform rather than a single-point thread, which reduces the mechanical variables that affect zero consistency over time. The rifle ships without sights, so optic selection is entirely at the shooter’s discretion.
