Description

The Daniel Defense RIS III 13″ FSP is built specifically for AR-15 carbines that retain a fixed front sight post—a configuration common on mil-spec and mil-spec-derived builds where replacing the FSP is not the goal. The FSP cutout lets the rail seat flush around the existing sight tower while maintaining a continuous Picatinny top rail from receiver to muzzle, so there is no interruption in the sight plane for optics or backup irons.

The free-float design is the functional core here. By decoupling the handguard from the barrel mechanically, it eliminates the point-of-impact shift that occurs when a sling or support hand applies lateral pressure to a barrel-contact handguard. That consistency matters most at distance or in positional shooting where grip pressure varies. The 6061-T6 aluminum construction keeps the assembly light without sacrificing the rigidity needed to hold zero under that kind of stress. Grade 8 military specification fasteners and a six-bolt attachment system anchor the rail to the upper receiver with enough clamping force to resist torque and rattle over time.

Seven M-LOK positions along the handguard give you discrete, indexed mounting locations for lights, lasers, and grip panels without adding the bulk or snag points of a full Picatinny wrap. Integrated QD swivel attachment points on both sides of the rail mean you are not giving up a mounting slot every time you run a sling. The bolt-up system is backward compatible with the RIS II, using the same barrel nut and bolt-up plate, so this rail drops into an existing RIS II-equipped upper without additional hardware. If you are running a pinned and welded muzzle device, Daniel Defense recommends working with a qualified gunsmith for installation, as M203-style hangers can interfere with that setup.
