Description

The Daniel Defense S2W barrel assembly is built for precision-oriented AR-15 shooters who want a longer sight radius and the velocity advantage that comes with an 18-inch tube in 5.56mm NATO. It is a drop-in barrel replacement aimed at handloaders, competition shooters, and hunters who already know what they want and are upgrading toward a specific performance goal rather than a general-purpose carbine.

The barrel uses a cold hammer-forged, chrome-moly vanadium steel construction. Cold hammer forging compresses and aligns the grain structure of the steel around a rifling mandrel rather than cutting grooves after the fact, which produces a harder bore surface that resists wear under sustained fire and holds its dimensions more consistently as temperatures climb. The 1:7 twist rate is fast enough to stabilize heavier projectiles — think 77-grain and heavier match bullets — without losing the ability to run common 55- and 62-grain loads reliably. Shooters who favor lighter varmint bullets in the 40-grain range may see some degradation in accuracy at distance, but for most defensive and precision applications this twist is the practical choice.

The rifle-length gas system is the detail that defines how this barrel feels behind the trigger. Stretching the gas port farther down the tube delays the moment the bolt starts its rearward travel, giving the bullet more time to exit the muzzle before pressure begins unlocking the action. The result is a measurably softer impulse compared to a mid-length or carbine gas system on the same load, which matters during extended range sessions and supports faster follow-up shots with less work from the shooter.

The S2W heavy barrel profile adds mass at the muzzle end, which increases thermal capacity and helps maintain point of impact as the barrel heats through a string of fire.
