Description

The DDM4 PDW is built around a specific mission: delivering rifle-caliber capability in the shortest practical package, suited to vehicle carry, home defense, or any context where a standard-length rifle becomes a liability. Daniel Defense built it around .300 AAC Blackout, a cartridge that was purpose-designed to perform from short barrels—so the 7-inch cold hammer forged barrel loses far less practical performance than the same length would cost you in 5.56. The 1-in-7 twist rate spans the full weight range the cartridge is commonly loaded in, meaning the rifle handles both lightweight supersonic loads and heavier subsonic ammunition without requiring a barrel change.

The chrome-lining inside that barrel serves a straightforward function: it slows the erosion that accelerated port pressure and heat cycles impose on the bore, extending service life under hard use. A pistol-length direct impingement gas system, which is what the short barrel dictates here, produces a sharper recoil impulse than a mid- or carbine-length system would on a longer rifle—the gas arrives at the bolt sooner and at higher pressure. The GRIP-N-RIP charging handle addresses the flip side of that equation: running a suppressor on a short, high-pressure gas system pushes combustion gas rearward, and this handle is designed to redirect that flow away from your face.

Upper and lower receivers are CNC-machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with a Type III hard-coat anodized finish, which resists wear at carry points and contact surfaces without adding meaningful weight. The MFR XL 6.0 handguard uses M-LOK slots for mounting lights, pressure switches, or other accessories flush to the rail rather than stacking adapters. The Maxim Defense CQB Gen 7 stock collapses the overall length to 21 inches—a meaningful difference when the rifle needs to fit inside a bag or a vehicle console. No sights are included, leaving the optic choice entirely to the shooter.
