Description
Federal’s American Eagle line exists for one purpose: to give shooters a reliable, affordable round they can run through the range without thinking twice about cost. This 308 Win load is aimed squarely at the shooter who puts meaningful round counts downrange — whether that’s working fundamentals at a paper target, dialing in a new scope, or practicing andrunning drills that burn through ammo faster than a box at a time.
The bullet itself is a Full Metal Jacket Boat-Tail design, which matters for two practical reasons. The boat-tail taper at the base reduces base drag as the projectile stabilizes after leaving the muzzle, helping the bullet retain velocity and resist wind deflection at longer distances — the published ballistic coefficient of .408 reflects that efficiency. The full metal jacket construction feeds reliably in semi-automatic platforms and keeps chamber fouling predictable, which is worth something when you’re running a sustained range session.
Brass cases are reloadable, so handloaders can recover, resize, and reload them rather than leaving money on the ground. Boxer primers — a single, removable cup — make that process straightforward with standard decapping tools. The non-corrosive powder charge means there’s no special urgency in cleaning after a session, though routine maintenance still applies.
At a muzzle velocity of 2,820 feet per second with a 150-grain projectile, this load sits in the standard-pressure range for 308 Win and is appropriate for gas-operated rifles chambered for either 308 Winchester or 7.62×51 NATO. It’s not a precision match load, but it’s consistent enough to hold honest groups while keeping your per-round cost in check. Available in 20-round boxes and 500-round cases.
