HammerDown changes that by starting from the lever-action platform and working forward. Velocity figures are tuned to the shorter barrel lengths common on lever rifles, so the 270-grain bonded soft point is traveling at a speed where its expansion characteristics were actually designed to perform — not coasting in underperforming after losing velocity it was never meant to lose.

The bonded construction matters for hunting applications. Molecular bonding between the lead core and the jacket keeps the bullet together through the initial impact, which preserves sectional density long enough for deep penetration before expansion opens up. At the velocities .444 Marlin produces, that weight retention translates to meaningful energy transfer on large, tough-bodied game at reasonable hunting distances.

The case geometry has been modified with a chamfered profile specifically to feed reliably through tubular magazines and the side-gate loading systems on most lever-action designs.
