Description

Federal’s Fusion line built its reputation in the deer woods by solving a core problem with bonded hunting bullets: keeping jacket and core together through the violence of impact so the bullet drives deep and holds together rather than shedding weight and losing penetration. The Fusion Tipped takes that same electro-chemically bonded construction and adds a polymer tip, which does two things worth understanding. First, it raises the ballistic coefficient to .529, which means the bullet sheds velocity more slowly and arrives downrange with more retained energy than an open-lead-tip design of comparable weight. Second, the tip initiates expansion at the moment of impact by driving into a skived nose cavity, producing consistent, reliable upset even at the reduced velocities you see at extended range — the scenario where a conventional soft point is most likely to underperform. The copper jacket is pressure-formed onto the lead core rather than drawn separately and assembled, which produces a more uniform bond and contributes to the high weight retention that defines the Fusion design. At a muzzle velocity of 2975 fps, the 140-grain projectile has enough velocity margin to reach well past typical deer hunting distances while still landing with the terminal performance the bullet was engineered to deliver. This is practical big-game ammunition for hunters who want to stretch their effective range without switching to a varmint-style bullet that may not hold together on a large animal. The 20-round box format suits range confirmation and a full season of hunting without the bulk of a case purchase.
